05Color correction

Bring me the box dye. I have seen worse.

Color correction fixes hair that has gone wrong — box dye, banding, brass, uneven lightening, or a color that did not take. At Drip Hair Studio it always starts with a color consult, is priced at consultation, and frequently takes more than one session.

Start here

Every correction starts with a color consult. Not a phone quote, not a text with a photo. Hair has a history and the history determines what is possible. Someone has to look at it, in daylight, and probably test a strand.

Why it takes more than one appointment

Hair has a finite amount of structural integrity, and lightening spends it. A correction that could technically be done in one seven-hour session and a correction that should be done in two sessions six weeks apart are often the same correction. The second version keeps the hair. Anyone promising a single-session fix on a serious correction is either not looking closely or is willing to hand you back damage.

What gets corrected

Box dye buildup that has gone opaque and flat. Banding — the stripes where multiple regrowth appointments have stacked. Brass and orange from under-lifted lightener. Green or blue cast from a toner over-correcting. Hot roots. At-home bleach that lifted unevenly. Grown-out ombre with a hard line.

The rule

The hair leaves healthier than it arrived. If getting you to the photo would cost more integrity than the hair has to spend, I will say so at the consult and give you the version that is actually achievable, plus the timeline to the version you want.

05Questions

Questions about color correction

How much does color correction cost?

It is priced at consultation. Correction cost depends on what is on the hair, how much hair there is, and how many sessions it will take. A color consult produces a real number before any work begins.

Can you fix box dye?

Usually, yes. Box dye is dense and lifts unevenly, so it often takes more than one session, but it is one of the most common corrections done here.

How many appointments will I need?

Frequently two or more, spaced several weeks apart. Splitting the work protects the hair's integrity. The plan and timeline come out of the consult.

Will my hair be damaged?

The standing rule is that hair leaves healthier than it arrived. If the result you want would cost more integrity than the hair has, you will be told at the consult, along with what is achievable instead.

Do I need a consultation first?

Yes. Color correction is never booked without a color consult. Book the consult — it is the whole point.
