05Balayage

Hand-painted, grown-out on purpose, and never a stripe.

Balayage at Drip Hair Studio is hand-painted lightening that grows out soft instead of leaving a line, done by a Master Color Specialist with seventeen years behind the chair. Partial and full balayage are priced at consultation; face-framing is the smallest entry point.

What it actually is

Balayage is a technique, not a shade. Lightener is painted on by hand, freehand, so the depth sits where the light would naturally hit it and the regrowth line is diffuse rather than blunt. That is the whole point of it: it is designed to grow out well. Foils place lightener in a controlled, saturated packet and get you brighter, faster, more uniformly. Most heads want some of both.

How it is priced

Partial and full foil/balayage are priced at consultation, and that is not evasion. The price of a balayage is set by how much hair there is, what is already on it, and how far it has to travel. Someone with virgin mid-back hair and someone with three years of box dye do not cost the same and should not be quoted the same. Face-framing foil/balayage is the smallest version. A gloss and tone at $85 keeps it alive between appointments.

How long it lasts

Four to six months on the placement, six to ten weeks on the tone. Tone is the part that fades. Booking a gloss between full appointments is cheaper than stretching until it turns brassy and then paying to correct it.

What the appointment looks like

Consultation first, in daylight, before anything is mixed. Then painting, processing, toning, shampoo and conditioning treatment, and a blowout. Plan on three to four hours for a full balayage. Bring photos of what you want and, more useful, photos of what you do not.

05Questions

Questions about balayage

How much does balayage cost in Bozeman?

At Drip Hair Studio, partial and full foil/balayage are priced at consultation because cost depends on hair length, density, and color history. Face-framing balayage is the smallest option. A gloss and tone to maintain it is $85.

How long does a balayage appointment take?

Three to four hours for a full balayage including toning and a blowout. Partial is shorter. Color correction is longer and is booked separately.

Is balayage better than foils?

Neither is better. Balayage grows out softer and is lower maintenance. Foils get you brighter and more uniform, faster. Most appointments at Drip use both in the same head.

How often do I need to come back?

Four to six months for the balayage itself, and a gloss every six to ten weeks to keep the tone from going warm.

Can I get balayage on dark hair?

Yes. Dimensional brunette work is a specialty here. Going very light from very dark may take more than one session, which is discussed at consultation before anything starts.

Come in gray. Leave in color.

One chair. One guest at a time. Wednesday through Saturday, noon to six.
